Along with Ruby Sherpa, Obtivian Noel Rappin continues to share his knowledge with the technology community - the latest example being an interview he conducted for the Coderpath podcast.
Coderpath hosts Miles Forrest and Curtis McHale talk extensively with Noel about test-driven development. Noel is the author of “Rails Test Prescriptions,” published through Pragmatic Programmers. Noel knows testing is a vitally important component of building software and he believes there is a need for further guidance when it comes to TDD - when and where and to start, what to do, what not to do; and when testing is not a good idea.
Noel explains how he uses TDD not only to verify the correctness of his programming, but also as a design tool to keep his design simple, emergent and organic. He talks about the importance of end-to-end acceptance testing using Cucumber or other tools for validating correctness and to verify that all the individual pieces are working together.
Noel’s guest spot on the Coderpath podcast is an enlightening discussion of pragmatic testing. Listen to it here - and follow Noel on Twitter @NoelRap.
