CHICAGO, Il., February 10, 2009 — Obtiva Corporation today announced its president and founder, Kevin P. Taylor, will be a panelist at the Saper Law Open Source Symposium. The symposium will be held in Chicago on February 17th and plans to bring together members of the open source community for an in-depth discussion of important topics related to open source software.

Taylor will be participating on the panel, “Open Source Business Models for the 21st century.” The panel will be discussing the pros and cons of open source and the different ways a company can participate in, and leverage, the open source publishing model. “Obtiva is a major consumer of open source projects. In fact, some of our start-up clients would never have gotten off the ground without the ability to build on top of open source platforms, such as the Ruby on Rails Web framework, the JBoss application server, or the MySQL database,” Taylor said.

Topics to be covered during the symposium include:

  • Leveraging Open Source and Commercial Software to Build Software Products.
  • Using and Developing Open Source Software for Education and Research.
  • Open Source Business Models for the 21st Century.
  • How using Open Source Impacts Patent Rights and Startup Acquisition Opportunities.
  • Open Source Compliance Software.
